Welcome to The Lord Lyon!

A good pub is one that understands the needs and predilections of the customer and serves it with generosity.

When you enter the Lord Lyon you will feel as if you have come home, with a roaring fire, a warm welcome and a smile you know that you will have a great shared experience with friends or family. A shared meal or drink is one of life’s pleasures, a buzzing pub is one of Britain’s greatest assets, and the best thing about any pub is the customers that use it.

The local pub is the vital and cosy meeting place for the rural and more modern commuting communities that make up the heart of English social life. A buzzing living pub is England’s historic legacy.

When we travel abroad we have a  good inexpensive meal in little family run places, and we  ask ourselves “why can’t we find this back home?” This is also our aim.
We serve some of the best food in West Berkshire, and are very proud of our reputation as one of the best pubs in the area.
As we are conveniently located just off the A34 near the M4 junction at Chievely, we can cater for breakfast and evening meals for coach parties going to or from Newbury Races at the Racecourse, or any other occasion, please ask for details.

We have selected our drinks menu in the same way as our food. To find and offer wines, spirits and fruit juices that are among the best in their styles or type, alongside at least 3 of Family brewer Arkells award winning ales.

In recognition of our hard work since opening in 2010 we are very proud to have been awarded Campaign for Real Ale, West Berkshire Community Pub of The Year 2011 and the county wide Community Pub of the Year 2012, voted by the combined CAMRA branches from Windsor, Maidenhead, Slough, Reading, Mid Berkshire and West Berkshire.

Our aim is to serve the freshest, simplest local food, cooked well.

Please see our sample menus and taster board below.  This is a sample menu, which changes daily, sometimes twice daily; as one dish sells out it is replaced by another, if you would like a copy of todays menu, either email us or telephone and we will send it to you or describe it over the phone.

Our cooking style is traditional, simple country cooking. Rustic yet refined, simple yet skilful, cooked with passion.

We aim to help the local, artisan producers and farmers, often using the cuts and produce that others do not have the time or the skill to prepare. Using local producers who love and care about what they do, their products will shine through in our dishes.

Our dishes will bring back the honesty, without the pretension, of good hearty pub cooking.
